As usual if you’ve come here for toons go to www.myspace.com/bombcultureuk where a whole smorgasbord of tune-smithery awaits you….
Before I start another rant I thought I’d just remind you all that Bomb Culture will be headling Up All Night @ The Wilmington, Near Angel Tube This very Saturday night!!!! WOO-HOO! Look at the last blog entry (below) to find out how to get in for a whole squid cheaper……
And now for a slightly depressing rant….
So another kid gets a gun and runs around an American University Campus executing students. There’s really not much to comment on about this. If you sell guns, people will buy them and if people are buying guns they’re gonna want to use them. Not being an expert in the subject, I’m not sure how effective a gun is at doing anything other than killing things, so why the surprise when it does the job it was intended to do? ‘Guns don’t kill people, people do’… yeah we’ll I can’t remember the last person I saw with an Uzi for a right hand.
I’m not saying anything new here, every time this kind of thing happens the same voices come out and the hilariously arrogant and simple minded will drag up the same arguments as to why it’s not the fault of the ‘right to bear arms’, but let’s face it (as one great comedian put it) with the mind set of your average gun owner wouldn’t it be safer for ‘a right to arm bears’? All they would do is shoot fish and stick up anyone with a pic-a-nic basket.
Sorry to sound offhand about what is a horrendous and sickening affair, but doesn’t seeing this kind of shit happen on such a regular basis get a wee bit tiring? The BBC reported last night that after the Amish community shootings last year Bush apparently held a meeting about School Shootings but failed to say the word ‘gun’ once. Now maybe that was because he couldn’t pronounce it, but considering his little Iraq adventures somehow the idea that he wasn’t acquainted with the word seems a tad laughable.
Ahh fuck it, you’ve heard all this before and depressingly you’ll hear it all again but for those brief few minutes when American gun culture can’t be ignored because of such a horrendous act of violence, I think it needs to be said.
