Yep, still no new gig/ band news as yer most lovely bunch of spunk monkeys work on a whole heap o’ nu toons, so let’s give in to the primeval urge to RANT…..Ahh Brighton, home of the de-camped London property investor, resting actor, mung bean soup slurper, kiss me quick hat wearer, clenched fist political warrior, dog on string stink merchant and now maniacal censorship imposing human rights champion. Yep in the land of all things Right-On, a ban has been declared on Homophobic rap music in case it offends the city's large gay population. Now, then where do we start with this...Well let’s begin by paraphrasing, ‘I may not like what you have to say, but I will defend your right to say it’. See? Simple isn’t it?
If we are going to ban offensive music then why not start with Phil Collins - Think of the joy spread across the globe if the phrase ‘Su-Su-Sudio’ was never heard again! And while we’re at it lets take out Westlife, KT Tunstall, Elton John and Anyone who says their own name in a record (Craig David, I’m looking at you). We can put them all on some deserted island and make them fight it out ‘Lord of the Flies’ stylee (Although it may be a toss-up as to who will be ‘Piggy’, Elton John or Phil Collins…Hmmmm, fuck it, stone them both.)
It boils down to this If I want to say that homophobic rap music is listened to by ignorant twats then I have just as much right to say so as the ignorant twat does to listen to that shit in the first place. He thinks I’m a twat and I think he is – the twain may never be met but that’s what Freedom of Speech is all about. If you have a problem, refine your argument, win with words not draconian legislation that puts you in the same totalitarian light as your aggressor. Then again you could always go for my ‘MOR Battle Royale on The Island of Offence’ idea…Anyone? Anyone? Aww fuck it, I’m off to listen to Cliff Richards new Christmas single -'Blame it on the Jews'. Yeeeee-ha!
